There is no single official number for private jet flying in the United States. Airlines have to report passenger data to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics; private (Part 91) and charter (Part 135) flights do not, and aircraft owners can even hide their tail numbers from public trackers. So nobody publishes a clean government count of “how many Americans flew private.”
But the flights themselves are counted. Industry data providers such as WingX and ARGUS TRAQPak track business-jet departures, and the picture they paint has New York at the very center of it. Here is what the 2025 data shows.

In 2025, Teterboro Airport (TEB) in New Jersey — the private-jet gateway to Manhattan — recorded 75,029 departures, more than any other private-aviation airport in the country. Westchester County Airport (HPN), the other main New York-area private field, ranked third nationally. In other words, two of the three busiest private-jet airports in the United States serve New York.

The New York–to–Florida winter migration
Where do all those New York jets go in winter? Overwhelmingly, south. Palm Beach International (PBI) ranked fourth busiest in the country in 2025 — but its traffic fell about 18% year on year, while Fort Lauderdale climbed about 18%. The reason is specific: temporary flight restrictions around Mar-a-Lago pushed private traffic from Palm Beach over to nearby fields like Fort Lauderdale and Miami-Opa Locka.
